What We Do?
The institute works to achieve its vision through a number of integrated programs. As governance and policy advocacy organization, LDI also believes that it cannot accomplish its desire good governance goal without addressing the unending culture of poverty crisis with which Liberia is engaged.
This vision thus created the need for the institute to include other crosscutting programmatic issues into its mainstream governance program. LDI core program areas are as follows:
- Law Reform and Decentralization,
- Community Governance and Advocacy,
- Gender and Development,
- Conflict and Security,
- Economic Justice and
- Constituency Outreach and Citizens’ Participation.
Other cross cutting program being implemented by LDI includes Budget Monitoring.
Programs
Law Reform and Decentralization
LDI’s decentralization approach focuses on socioeconomic, political and administrative dimensions.
Community Governance and Advocacy
LDI works with indigenous communities and structures to link them to the overall governance framework and engender a culture of local participation in policy formulation and implementation.
Gender and Development
Structural marginalization and exclusion of women and youth in public affairs and decision making creates imbalance for participatory governance.
Conflict and Security
Though violent conflict has ended, one cannot overemphasize the need to mainstream conflict sensitivity in all spheres of national agenda.
Economic Justice
LDI Economic Justice program cuts across national and international policies and instruments on economic development issues.
Constituency Outreach and Citizens’ Participation
Liberia has a young democracy which cannot be sustained without integrating local communities in the governance process.
