Community Social Mobilization Program:
LDI has been working with rural communities in Liberia and currently in Bong using some integrated approaches. Since nine months ago, working with fifteen communities in Bong targeting Ex-combatants (XCs) and War Affected Persons (WAPs) including IDPs and vulnerable groups, LDI continues to provide social reintegration intervention through counseling, civic and human rights education, peace and reconciliation as well as joint ventures economic empowerment programs. With support from the United States Aid for International Development through its partner, the Liberia Community Infrastructure Program (LCIP), LDI will shortly be providing some socio-economic empowerment programs through skills training and income generating activities to 925 Xcs and 1,125 WAPs in Bong. Xcs and WAPs will be trained into Local Soap Production, Tailoring, Pastry, Roofing Tiles Making and agriculture activities. At the end of the six months training, LDI will embark upon a number of activities to enable beneficiaries exercise the skills they have acquired by ensuring that there is market for their products. To achieve this, LDI will develop trade advocacy agenda to create market space for them. The second approach is that following the training the project participants will be engaged as family heads and as such micro credit possibility will be sought to enable them rebuild their homes and at the same time create space for sustainability.
