PAST PROGRAMSHELLOCURRENT PROGRAM LDI PROGRAMS Governance: LDI conducts activities which help to increase citizens' participation in public policy issues and build bridges between policy makers, the governed and even their constituents in ways that do not only intellectually empower the people to constructively hold their leaders accountable, but also to have a say in decisions that affect them. LDI also works with local government administrations to enhance their capacity as a means of promoting decentralization and people-centered policy. LDI conducts these activities through town meetings, symposium, civic forums, radio talk shows amongst others. Human Right:: LDI monitors, researches and documents basic human rights violations. Our human rights programs cut across all human rights related matters, including but not limited to economic Justice, indigenous land disputes, gender, civil and political rights, Child rights, etc. In order to realize our objectives, LDI often pursues these violations in coalition with other local and international partners. Small Arms and light Weapon Program: LDI sees the proliferation of illicit weapons and small arms as a serious threat to stability and democratic governance not only in Liberia but also the sub region at large. In furtherance of our institutional objective, LDI works with communities and indigenous structures to advance its illegal arms collection program through sensitization, street theatre, drama and story telling and sometimes through guns-for-development programs. Peace building & conflict mitigation : LDI believes a stable and peaceful society is contingent upon building mutual trust between and amongst families & communities who have been at loggerhead for several reasons. LDI employs integrated approaches such as recreational activities, organizing community peace-building committees, early warning information gathering and documentation as well as the use of traditional structures to settle disputes amongst communities and tribal elements. Trade and Globalization – LDI observes that unfair trade strongly contributes to the fast increasing poverty index in the world. As a fair-trade-advocacy and pro-democracy organization, LDI has been part of the global campaign in collaboration with faith-based groups to create awareness on the need for the church to actively get involved in the fight against poverty and unfair trade. |
